Grey and White battled it out in a very competitive Goddard final. First time finalist, White, showed great composure in holding off a Grey team that was determined to score early. After a 15/20 minute period of dominance and some great saves by their keeper, White was able to slow the game down and create scoring chances of their own. A tight first half ended in a 0-0 score. The second half showed more of the same back and forth with outstanding saves from both keepers until Grey finally broke through! The last 15 minutes were tense with White having great chances to tie the game, but Grey held on for the 1-0 victory. The champs are back and have tied Blue and Green with 8 GSL Cups each.
Green won its 8th championship to tie Blue for 1st overall with a 3-2 victory over Purple. Green beat Grey 2-1 in a tightly contested semifinal match that was settled in overtime, while Purple cruised into the final with a 4-1 victory over Orange. Purple started the final off strong, leading 1-0 at halftime, but Green quickly took a 2-1 lead after the break. A penalty gave Green a 3-1 advantage before Purple closed the gap at 3-2. Purple’s efforts in the final minutes went unrewarded and Green was able to hold on for the win and reclaim the GSL trophy, their second since 2006.
Congratulations to Green on an excellent season!
